Hairy Algae Growth

How to Identify and Remove Hairy Algae in Your Aquarium

Is your aquarium looking messy and overrun with ugly, hairy, stringy, or matted algae? This unsightly algae can block light, entangle your décor, and make your fish stressed and uncomfortable.

Step 1 – Treat Your Aquarium

  • Use Anti Hair Algae treatment to effectively remove and control algae growth. Check the correct dosage for your aquarium size [here].
  • Test your aquarium water for elevated nitrate levels and treat with Nitrasafe to reduce nutrients that feed algae.
  • Clean your filter thoroughly and ensure there are no blockages that could affect water flow.
  • Avoid placing your aquarium in direct sunlight. Use an Auto Timer to maintain a natural day/night cycle (10 hours light, 14 hours dark) to prevent excessive algae growth.

Step 2 – Support Your Fish’s Health

  • If your fish are gasping at the surface, increase oxygen levels by adding an air pump to keep your fish healthy during treatment.
