How to Identify and Treat Slime Parasites in Aquarium Fish

If your fish is developing a grey or white mucus coating on its body or has cloudy eyes, it may be suffering from slime parasites—a common but serious condition in freshwater aquariums. Infected fish may also shimmy, flick, scratch, or jump against objects in the tank, trying to relieve discomfort.

This parasitic disease stresses your fish and can lead to secondary infections like fungus or fin rot if not treated promptly.

Step 1 – Treat Your Fish for Slime Parasites

  1. Remove the Carbon from Your Filter – Carbon can absorb medication. Take it out before dosing, and return it 7 days after the final treatment.
