How to Identify and Treat Fungal Infections (Cotton Wool Disease) in Aquarium Fish

If your fish is looking unhealthy, losing weight, and showing white, cotton wool-like growths on its body, it likely has a fungal infection, commonly known as cotton wool disease. Additional signs include clamped fins, lack of energy, and refusal to eat.

Step 1 – Treat Your Fish for Fungal Infection

  1. Remove Carbon from Your Filter – Carbon can absorb medications, so remove it before treatment and replace it 7 days after the last dose.
  2. Apply Anti Fungus & Fin Rot Treatment – Use the correct dosage based on your aquarium size. Be sure to shake well before use.
  3. Add Aqualibrium First Aid Salt – This supports your fish’s immune system and helps combat the infection.
  4. Minimize Stress – Allow your fish time to recover by avoiding excessive tank cleaning, rearranging decorations, or introducing new fish.
