How to Identify and Support Fish with Lumps, Bumps & Growths
If your fish is showing irregular lumps, bumps, or growths beneath its skin, it may be suffering from chronic conditions that are difficult to fully cure. Although the exact cause can be unclear, you can take steps to help your fish feel more comfortable and boost its immune system.
Step 1 – Treat Your Fish for Lumps and Growths
- Remove Carbon Filter – Before treatment, take out the carbon filter media from your aquarium’s filtration system. Be sure to replace it 7 days after the final treatment dose.
- Use Disease Away Treatment – Apply the appropriate dosage based on your tank size to support your fish’s immune system and relieve discomfort.
Note: Avoid using Disease Away with scaleless fish or invertebrates. - Add Aqualibrium First Aid Salt – This helps strengthen your fish’s natural defenses during stressful conditions.
- Allow Recovery Time – Reduce stress by minimizing tank disturbances such as excessive cleaning, rearranging decorations, or introducing new fish.
- Follow Re-treatment Guidelines – If needed, follow the instructions on the product packaging for additional doses.
⚠️ Important: Some treatments may lower oxygen levels in the water. If your fish are gasping at the surface, increase oxygenation by adding an air pump or air stone.
Step 2 – Maintain Optimal Aquarium Conditions
- Test Water Quality Regularly – Check for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH imbalances that can stress your fish and worsen health problems.
- Correct Unhealthy Water Parameters – Use water conditioners and treatments to restore balanced, safe water conditions.
- Inspect Equipment – Ensure all filters, heaters, and aerators are functioning correctly.
- Perform Routine Maintenance – Repair or replace any faulty equipment to keep your aquarium environment stable and healthy.
By treating your fish carefully and maintaining excellent water quality, you give your aquatic pets the best chance to stay comfortable and recover from persistent lumps and growths.
